Daniel Deusser Shows GLOCK’s Perfection

Gaston GLOCK's Championat Vienna (prize money: €59,000), which began this evening, was a lavish affair: a course specially designed by Frank Rothenberger, beautiful floral arrangements provided courtesy of GLOCK and colour-coordinated with the jumps, the GLOCK winner's cup specially designed by goldsmith Martin Schaller, as well as music composed by Joost Peters to accompany the grand entrance of the winner and runners-up and the trophy presentation. Following an exciting jump-off on the rain-soaked 1.50 m course, first place went to Daniel Deusser, the reigning German Championship winner and team silver medal winner at the European Championship in Herning.

Riding his eight-year-old Fyloe van het Claeyssenhof (gelding by Burggraaf), Deusser was one of only seven riders to jump clear in the first round, and his performance in the jump-off was nothing less than inspirational. "I'm so happy, not just because the Championat here in Vienna has been so special, but also because my horse is barely an eight-year-old and already performing beautifully," said Deusser, interviewed after receiving his trophy. "It's a pity the weather hasn't cooperated, which of course makes it harder for the event organisers and means a heck of a lot of extra work, but it's been fantastic here at the Vienna Masters!"

The Gaston GLOCK’s Championat Vienna course was not by any means easy, and only one other contestant managed a clear round in the jump-off: Sören Pedersen (DK), on his 10-year-old mare, Tailormade Cavetta (sired by Careful), tackled the course at a moderate speed and took second place (42.18). Third place in this world-class event went to Harrie Smolders (NL), who achieved the fastest four-fault round in the jump-off, riding the 13-year-old Hannover mare Regina Z (4/39.90).

The best of the Austrians was Tyrol's Julia Kayser on nine-year-old stallion Sterrhof's Cayetano, with five faults, putting her in 18th place, and right behind her Alpenspan Team and GLOCK rider Gerfried Puck (Styria) on GLOCK's Wibo B, with eight faults, putting him in 19th place.
