Ex aeqo victory for Moyersoen (ITA) and Vrieling (NED)

Every equestrian sport fan’s heart beat faster just on reading the starter list for the GLOCK’s CSI3* Grand Prix with €100,000 in prize money. The super stars of show jumping had come to take part in the final competition in the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER arena over this top-class weekend and were all determined to win the LONGINES world ranking event.

To do so, they not only needed to clear the tricky 1.60 m obstacles in the first round, but also had to be prepared to take risks in the jump-off. 18 riders from eight nations made it through to the decider, among them four Austrians: Thomas Frühmann (Vienna), Stefan Eder (Salzburg), Stefanie Bistan (Lower Austria) and Dieter Köfler (Carinthia).

As the first five were all within one second of each other, there was no holding back and just only one thing for it: full speed! One by one the riders tried their luck and at the end of the day the result was one that nobody would have expected: Filippo Moyersoen (ITA) and Jur Vrieling (NED) tied for first place in the GLOCK’s CSI3* Grand Prix!

Moyersoen, who has already taken part in Olympics, World and European Championships, produced a brilliant round aboard the 11-year-old Westphalian mare Loro Piana Canada, managed every turn at the very limit and galloped over the finishing line clear in 33.21 seconds. Nobody appeared to be able to match this result until the second last starter Jur Vrieling pulled off this pièce de résistance. Riding his Baloubet du Rouet progeny VDL Bubalu, he did the same as the Italian and the clock also stopped at 33.21 seconds, making it a premiere double win at the GHPC!

The second Dutchman on the podium was only eleven hundredths slower. Wout-Jan van der Schans piloted his KWPN gelding Capetown round the jump-off course in 33.32 seconds to finish in third place.

The Austrians had bad luck in the jump-off. Reigning Austrian Champion and Alpenspan Team rider Thomas Frühmann again posted a very fast round aboard The Sixth Sense, but a knockdown prevented him winning despite a fantastic time of 31.28 seconds. He claimed seventh as best Austrian. Fixkraft Team rider Stefan Eder on Chilli van Dijk NRW also had a knockdown and finished the competition in tenth place. The jump-off proved particularly frustrating for Alpenspan Team and GLOCK rider Dieter Köfler on GLOCK’s Prince De Vaux and for Fixkraft Team and Magna Racino rider Stefanie Bistan on her Bogegaardens Apollonia. Both had two knockdowns, thus slipping down the rankings and out of the placings.
