All right today: CSI4* win for Marc Houtzager (NED)

Once again, the CSI4* this morning was all about valuable points for the Longines Ranking List. A field of 37 riders saddled their horses for the international 1.45 m jumping competition in two phases. Those that cleared the nine jumps in phase one could go in for the attack in phase two.

Motivated from his runner-up position in the CSI4* 1.55 m jump yesterday, where he was only narrowly beaten by Sweden’s Angelica Augustsson, he made it to the top of the pile today: Marc Houtzager from the Netherlands. The number 14 in the current world rankings and his Guidam son Sterrehof’s Uppity did not leave anything to chance, crossing the line in a top time of 33.39 seconds. Following wins in the Global Champions Tour in Hamburg and the Nations Cup in Aachen with the Dutch team, he was delighted with his first place at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER: “We gave everything again today and it was finally good for victory here.”

Lord of Arabia is the exotic sounding name of the nine-year-old Holstein gelding ridden by John Whitaker (GBR) that finished second. The pair was just under half a second off the winning time (33.84 seconds). Shooting star Bertram Allen showed his prowess again today. In a starting field full of long-standing professionals, he demonstrated his talent by remaining cool and calm while guiding his Montreux daughter Wild Thing L over the course. A time of 34.14 seconds meant third.

Austria was represented by GLOCK rider Dieter Köfler (Carinthia) aboard nine-year-old Glock’s Zyrano in ninth (37.68 seconds), Julia Kayser (Tyrol), the winner’s partner, on Sterrehof’s Cayetano Z in tenth (37.71) and Upper Austria’s Astrid Kneifel with Fair Play 5 in eleventh place.
