Sunday, 07 July 2013 GLOCK's Youngster Tour Finale 1.40 m

Simply unbeatable: Arjo and Martin Fuchs (SUI)

The first round of GLOCK’s Youngster Tour Final today was a 1.40 m course with 12 obstacles and 15 jumps distributed over 440 metres. One after another, the riders and their 32 horses vied for a place in the decisive jump-off. Although only seven and eight years old, the mounts looked very promising with a great deal of potential. Just under half of the starting field went clear in the first round.

It was therefore all or nothing in the jump-off! As each rider risked a little bit more than the one before, the leaderboard kept changing. One best time followed another until finally the most daring rider won the day.

Shooting star Martin Fuchs (SUI), already a gold medallist at the Youth Olympic Games and trained by Olympic Champion Steve Guerdat (SUI), attacked right from the start on his eight-year-old KWPN gelding Arjo (by Uno) and clocked up 36.23 seconds. He beamed at the winner’s interview saying, “The environment here at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER is amazing. My horses jump so well, which also makes it good to come back to Treffen time after time.”

Robert Whitaker (GBR) also found himself on the podium yet again. As on Friday in the young horse competition, he went flat out on Asterix E Z, an eight-year-old Air Jordan Z progeny, but having seen two tenths shaved off his time (36.43 seconds) landed in second place.

Finale, an eight-year-old mare bred in Belgium and ridden by Ivo Biessen (NED), did her best too. The time of 37.82 seconds put the two in third place.
