Constant van Paesschen (BEL) wins the first CSI5* competition

During this weekend of CSI5* International Show Jumping at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Austria, it is not just about the prize money totalling almost 600,000 euros, five shots at World Ranking points and those much coveted GLOCK trophies. In the GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix on Sunday, athletes from already-qualifying nations can also raise their chances of a ticket to the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon by attaining a so-called “Certificate of Capability”.

There was a first determination of performance today in the CSI5* GLOCK’s Opening Competition, with all of the top stars, like Olympic winner, World and European Champion and current number 3 in the world, Steve Guerdat (SUI), and his compatriot, three-times GLOCK’s Grand Prix winner Martin Fuchs, lined up to start.

Victory in this opening, 5-star-rated competition over 1.45 m went to number 91 in the world, Constant van Paesschen (BEL). With his eleven-year-old Holstein Compadre van de Helle (Casall x Concerto), the Belgian rider completed the opening competition not only quickly - in 66.86 seconds – but also penalty-free.

In second place were the experienced Nations Cup rider Shane Breen and CSF Vendi Cruz (Ars Vivendi x Cruising) for Ireland. Sweden’s Malin Baryard-Johnsson and her ten-year-old Swedish warmblood gelding H&M Second Chance completed the line-up of nations. The duo completed the 14 jumps in 70.91 seconds and were delighted to take third place.

GLOCK Rider Gerco Schröder and his ten-year-old son of Cornet Obolensky, GLOCK’s Dobelensky, also showed promising form in this opening competition at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER. Following a steady, penalty-free round he achieved an excellent eighth place behind the best red-white-red rider Max Kühner on his son of Cornet Obolensky, Cornet Kalua.
