World Equestrian Games with hurricane obstacles

The 2018 World Equestrian Games Tryon were the highlight of the season and are already over for dressage riders. Whilst show-jumpers and vaulters are just settling in at Tryon (USA), the world’s best dressage riders and their horses are already on their way back home. Team GLOCK was represented by no fewer than three riders and horses at the Tryon International Equestrian Center: GLOCK’s Zonik N.O.P. and GLOCK’s Dream Boy had been nominated for the Dutch team with their experienced GLOCK Riders Edward Gal and Hans Peter Minderhoud. Due to her consistent top performance under GLOCK Trainer-Rider Riccardo Sanavio, GLOCK’s Federleicht was voted into the Italian team for her first World Equestrian Games.

After both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Special Multiple, Olympic medallist and World and European champion GLOCK Rider Edward Gal was very happy with his ten-year-old world championship debutant GLOCK’s Zonik N.O.P. (Blue Hors Zack x Romanov). The well-rehearsed duo received a rating of more than 77 % in both tests. The piaffe, passage and canter pirouettes in particular were good enough for the judges to give a rating of 9 in the Special. They lost some valuable points with a mistake in the two-tempi flying changes, but the two qualified magnificently for the freestyle of the best 15 duos by coming seventh. However, the freestyle had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions including strong wind and rain caused by Hurricane Florence. “Zonik was fabulous and I’m very proud of him. Of course I had been looking forward very much to the musical freestyle. It is always the highlight of a championship and a chance to show the strengths of a horse. But of course the decision was correct. Postponing the freestyle to Monday, so shortly before the flight home, would have meant too great a health risk for the horses. There will be another championship for sure”, was Eddie’s resume after the cancellation in the interest of the horses’ wellbeing.

GLOCK Rider Hans Peter Minderhoud was also more than happy with his ten-year-old Vivaldi son, GLOCK’s Dream Boy N.O.P.: “Unfortunately we made some mistakes in the one-tempi and two-tempi changes in the Grand Prix Special. I guess it was due to the heat and high humidity that “Dreamy” felt a bit under the weather on the second day. But he mastered his first championship brilliantly and demonstrated top-level potential. I’m terribly proud of him.” It was a was promising ultimate result, 72.052 % and 20th place in the Grand Prix Special of these World Equestrian Games.

GLOCK Rider-Trainer Riccardo Sanavio had his championship debut in Tyron in the saddle of 14-year-old Westphalia mare GLOCK’s Federleicht, and GLOCK Trainer Nicole Werner praised the two after the Grand Prix, for which they received 69.658 %: “It was a solid test with some minor mistakes in the two-tempi changes. The two did a great job.”
