Andy Candin (ROU) makes a clean sweep at the end

The 1.35 m opening jumping competition in the CSI2* was hotly contested today. It started off with the first of 38 riders pulling off an incredible round. Always fast, the Fixkraft team rider Maximilian Schmid (GER) and his experienced mount Lords Guy rode the challenging course quickly but with great care. Their faultless effort paid off, keeping them at the top of the leader board for a long time. In fact, it almost looked as if the time would be unbeatable. That is, until the 22-year-old Finnish rider Anna-Julia Kontio came along. Aboard her Landor S daughter Landliebste, she managed to cross the finishing line just under a second faster than the young Bavarian to take the lead.

The last combination to head out into the arena was Andy Candin (ROU) and his Baden-Württemberg bay Carlo 281. At the first turns it became patently clear that the two GHPC ‘regulars’ were not simply out to place but to win. Andy looked very happy at the winner’s interview: “I’m so glad I’ve finally managed to win here at the GHPC — it never worked out for me before. Carlo always wants to be fast and I hope we can keep up our form over the weekend.”

The best Austrian was Lower Austria’s Christian Schranz riding Whisper von Lichten CH in fifth. Georg Hladik (Lower Austria) and Parcival Z followed just behind in seventh place. Our old hand Hugo Simon (Styria) came in eighth with Freddy 7, while Franz Josef Rainer (Carinthia) and Knockanree Diamond, Alfred Greimel (Styria) on Cherie 178 and Stefan Leikermoser (Carinthia) with his Auheim's Cosmo Brown finished tenth to twelfth.
