Adieu GLOCK’s Romanov

When is the time right to say farewell to your horse? Our hearts say never, yet we know that one day it will be time. Today was such a day. The day we had to bid farewell to our utterly beloved GLOCK’s Romanov. Our charmer, our heartbreaker is no more. He reached the age of 20, nine of those spent with us. Years for which we give our heartfelt thanks.

Our Romanov was being treated by specialists due to cushing syndrome. Unfortunately he became ever worse, with the consequence that today, on the advice of the veterinarians in attendance, we let him go over the rainbow bridge in order to spare him extended suffering. So it is that we say adieu and reflect with heavy hearts.

Departure
Hans-Peter Minderhoud was with Romanov to the last minute. “It’s desperately sad and yet, at the same time, you know it’s right” he says. “Romanov was a really special stallion. Simply fantastic to ride and it was such a wonderful feeling to have the privilege of sitting in his saddle. We had lots of successful competitions and were runner-up European Champions with the Dutch Team in Herning in 2013. I will miss him so much. All of us here at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Netherlands will miss him. He was a horse of such character, a real stallion and yet he really got to your heart. I stroked him till the last moment today and told him he should be good and we would see each other again. He fell asleep peacefully, just a little consolation for us all.”

GLOCK’s Romanov – an international career as dressage and breeding stallion
Born in 2000, the son of Rohdiamant and a dam descended from Grundstein II, he was reserve champion of the Oldenburg stallion licensing in 2002 and based at the Danish Blue Hors stud. In 2004 he was “best dressage stallion” at the Danish licensing event in Herning, champion of the 5-year-old dressage horses in Denmark in 2005 and was honoured as VTV dressage stallion of the year in 2008.

Under Sune Hansen (DEN) he achieved placings in Grands Prix competitions, won the Media Cup in Hamburg in 2010, came second in the Grand Prix Special of Verden, was the winner in the Grand Prix of Copenhagen and, in 2011, on the Danish team for the European Championships in Rotterdam. In October 2011, the world-renowned Danish Blue Hors stud delivered a sensation: the popular dressage and breeding stallion, Blue Hors Romanov, was ridden by the multiple-world champion of dressage, Edward Gal, marking the first performance by a non-Danish rider on a horse from Blue Hors stud. Under GLOCK Rider Edward Gal he achieved new captivating form and, in 2012 alone, delivered top-three-placings in 's-Hertogenbosch (CDI4*), Rotterdam (CDI3*) and Odense (CDI-W). In May 2013, the exceptional Oldenburg dressage stallion was presented by GLOCK Rider Hans-Peter Minderhoud, who took him to victory in Aachen (CDI4*), Drachten (CDI3*), Hagen (CDI4*) and Villach (CDI3*), as well as achieving many top-three-placings and celebrating the runner-up European champion team title in Herning (DEN).

In addition to his performances in top dressage equestrian sports, GLOCK’s Romanov was one of the most sought-after dressage sires in Denmark and a popular stud in all of Europe. The elegant Oldenburg stallion offered extraordinary foal crops and a considerable number of descendants, which are being presented successfully internationally. His son “Honnerups Driver”, was supreme world champion in the world championship of young dressage horses in 2009. Additionally, GLOCK’s Romanov produced another extraordinary talent in the top ten with “Skovens Rafael”. In 2011 too, with “Hojersmindes Rolex”, another Romanov descendant reached the finale. In the same year, GLOCK’s Romanov presented two licensed sons in the Danish licensing and became “Stallion of the year” himself. Additionally, in the qualification for the German Foal Championate, he produced four qualified foals and two times the winning foal. The descendants of the elegant Oldenburg stallion were also presented in the German Federal Championat. Romanov sired more than 10 licensed sons in the breeding register of the German Fédération and more than 100 registered breeding mares, more than 20 of which are federal premium mares. GLOCK’s Romanov also had a great share in the incredible success of Danish warm blood, produced extraordinary foal years and had to his credit licensed sons such as Blue Hors Rosoff, the two-times world championship finalist of young horses and premium stallion Skovens Rafael, Tailormade Red Rebel Blue and approximately 200 registered breeding mares.

Today we do not only bid good bye to an extraordinary breeding and equestrian sports stallion, but to a truly beloved friend.

Adieu GLOCK’s Romanov.
