Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet shows how it’s done

Twenty-five duos set themselves the challenge of the CSI5* GLOCK’s Perfection Tour over 1.45 m, arranged as a two-phase event and marking the start of the second day of Horses & Stars at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Austria.

Taking well-earned victory in this international 5-star jumping competition, with prize money totalling 10,000 euros, was 2015 Aachen European Championship silver medallist and current No. 22 in the world, Gregory Wathelet (BEL). The experienced Belgian mare Iphigeneia de Muze (Erco Van T Roosakker x For Pleasure) has been under Wathelet’s saddle since 2015. The two of them have already enjoyed success together at 5-star level and were the only duo to deliver a time under 30 seconds (0/28.77). On what was now Wathelet’s sixth trip to the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE, the duo surely demonstrated their class.

In second place was Guy Williams (GBR), also a rider among the top 100 in the world. In the saddle on Rouge de Ravel (Ultimo van Ter Moude x Quouglof Rouge), his time of 30.08 seconds pushed his fellow British rider Laura Renwick, with Top Dollar VI, daughter of Dollar du Murier, into third place (0/33.55).

Taking an outstanding fourth place was Austria’s Christian Rhomberg with his eleven-year-old stallion Budapest 5 (Balou du Rouet x Castor), with a time of 34.47 seconds in Phase 2. A second red-white-red duo, Christoph Nothegger (T) and Twilight, also achieved a placing (12th place | 12/35.03).
