Markus Beerbaum wins the GLOCK’s 2* Grand Prix

The first big final to be decided on the last day of International Show Jumping at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Austria was today’s GLOCK’s 2* Grand Prix. With a total prize pot of 25,000 euros, this world ranking jumping competition over 1.45 m began with a basic round over 13 obstacles and 16 jumps. Here, twelve duos managed to remain penalty-free, so victory was decided in the jump-off.

German old hand Markus Beerbaum was not to be beaten here. As third-from-last rider, he headed into the fray on nine-year-old Selle Français mare Tequila de Lile and ultimately victory, as his time of 50.08 seconds was not to be beaten. “The ladies really pushed ahead, so I knew I had to take a bit of a risk”, said the sole male participant in the jump-off. “It went well, as I caught the tight turns and long gallop sections as planned.” As to the question whether he’s more nervous riding himself or, as this afternoon, watching his successful wife, Meredith-Michaels Beerbaum, in the GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix, the response came like a shot: “Definitely when I have to watch!”

Completing her first two-star Grand Prix was the nine-year-old AES mare, Ruby VIII, under the saddle of Louise Whitaker (GBR). This duo went to start immediately before Markus Beerbaum, the latter then ultimately beating her time of 51.80 seconds. “I didn’t actually think he would be faster than me. But, for a first Grand Prix with Ruby VIII, I’m more than satisfied.”

Third place went to Evie Buller from Australia in 52.20 seconds with her Stanley 151, son of Silvio I. Best Austrian was Marie-Luise Abraham (AUT/K), who completed the GLOCK’s 2* Grand Prix with Zazou in sixth place (54.03).
