Up the Swiss: Martin Fuchs wins Bronze Tour final

Today, Sunday (3 Feb), was the final day at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER and the heat was definitely on right from the first event, the Bronze Tour final.

All 68 riders were competing to win the 1.35 m jump class and gave their all in the course designed by Frank Rothenberger (GER) and Adi Appe (AUT). Finally, 18 pairs made it through to the jump-off.

Here there was one quick round after another and again twelve combinations jumped without any penalties. Sweden’s Linnea Ericsson produced a textbook round on her nine-year-old KWPN gelding Zandiego U and 33.05 seconds were good for third in the final rankings.

The popular Bavarian Fixkraft rider Maximilian Schmid in action here aboard Lords Guy, the Lord Z progeny from the Oldenburg stud, did not hold back at all when jumping the course, but the pair were still just under three tenths short of the top time (32.65). It was clinched by the young Swiss star Martin Fuchs (SUI). Riding his only eight-year-old gelding Arjo, he fairly shot round the course at top speed. All the rails stayed in place and, crossing the line with a time of 32.36 seconds, victory was his. “That was a very good start today. Arjo jumped very well! I hope we can carry on like that in the Silver and Grand Prix Tour,” said the young Swiss grinning.

Austria’s Anton Martin Bauer (Lower Austria) and his excellent jumper Dominant van 'T Heike, a Grandeur progeny, missed the podium by a mere hundredth of a second to take fourth, still a top placing.

Our “golden oldie” Hugo Simon (Styria) on Freddy 7 and Julia Kayser (Tyrol) on Alicante also succeeded in being placed. They finished in ninth and 17th respectively, rounding off the good results for Austria.
