While the international equestrian stars were just warming up for the CDI4* beginning tomorrow (Friday), the national dressage riders had an early start on the first day of the Alps-Adriatic Dressage Trophy final. It kicked off with the beginners class divided into two sections. The first of the novices were the under 16s, which Carinthia's Tamara Vogelleitner won (66.609%) on Dark Temptation (results link). They were followed by the over 16s where it was Styria's Jacqueline Wagner with her Haflinger mare Lamona (67.931%) who took top honours. results link

Only two riders competed in the L class and both came from Sonnenhof, a Carinthian club on Lake Millstatt. Twelve-year-old Kathrin Brugger, an up and coming talent, finished first with her Welsh pony Selmartin and 67.319%. results link

In the LM class, Marlies Mangge also from Carinthia emerged victorious. A member of Reitclub Xenophon, she scored 67.162% with her eleven-year-old mare Friederika WK, relegating the previous leaders in the AADT rankings, Christina Dow (Styria) on her Frederic von Bayern (66.847%) and Corinna Stark (Lower Austria) with Kiss (66.712%), to second and third place. results link

She is simply in a class of her own, as Caroline Kottas-Heldenberg (Vienna) again demonstrated today at LM level in the Alps-Adriatic Dressage Trophy. With her 9-year-old stallion APT's Darius Royal and an impressive 68.423 percentage points, she was top of the class and pulled off a well-earned win. Second and third place went to Barbara Brestowanszky (Carinthia) on Pommery (67.117%) and Jacqueline Toniutti (Styria) on Sandrose (67.027%). results link

Styria took the lead in the most difficult test today. Karin Kosak excelled in the S class with Florentino, her 9-year-old Florestan I son. Their performance in the test (FEI Young Rider Team) earned them 69.035%. Taking second place, the new 2012 Austrian Young Rider Champion, Timna Zach (Carinthia), proved her prowess with her Dutch gelding Glock's Womanizer and a score of 68.377%. Third was the beaming winner of the previous LM test, Caroline Kottas-Heldenberg (Vienna), this time on her Oldenburg mare Dark Rose (67.193%). results link
