GLOCK’s 2* Grand Prix victory — a delayed birthday present for Marie Longem

On Friday at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Austria, Marie Longem from Norway celebrated not only her 25th birthday but also eleventh place in the GLOCK’s 2* Tour. Today this student of Gregory Wathelet topped that and gave herself a delayed present: triumph in the GLOCK’s 2* Grand Prix. As one of five female riders, she succeeded in completing the basic round of this World Ranking test over 1.45 m penalty-free, thereby qualifying for the decider. With her twelve-year-old KWPN gelding Algorhythem, she managed a perfect round: “Today Lady Luck was on our side. My horse jumped fantastically and I couldn’t be happier right now. This is our first Grand Prix victory and I had a really good feeling during the round. Sometimes we still have small communication problems on the course, so I don’t normally ride so fast. But he always gives his best and fights through on my behalf.”

Her time of 47.98 seconds was not to be beaten by the winner of the GLOCK’s 2* Tour on Friday, Ismael Garcia Roque (ESP) with nine-year-old Durania K. He lined up in second place with 48.52 seconds and just pushed Denis Nielsen (GER), with DSP Cashmoaker, into third place (0/48.64). Austria’s Marianne Schindele (K) and Tango d’Ecry missed out on qualification for the jump-off by two hundredths and, with one penalty point, came sixth.
