Congratulations! Christian Ahlmann is the fabulous winner of the GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix
Twenty-eight riders from among the top 100 in the show jumping world had made their way to the first indoor CSI5* International Show Jumping from February 1st – 3rd at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Austria, intent on securing a share of the unbelievable total prize purse of 597,000 euros.
The sporting highlight of the Season Opening at GHPC Austria was the GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix on Sunday (03/02/2019). With prize money adding up to 344,000 euros, the huge reward for success in this test over 1.60 m was one of the most generous in Europe. “Of course a 5-star course is challenging; on top of that, there are lots of good riders and horses here. Meanwhile, the ground in the hall is completely new and the horses are jumping really superbly. I’m sure we’ll see some fantastic sport”, commented GLOCK Rider Gerco Schröder before the competition.
Forty-two duos started in the GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix, of whom 14 qualified for the jump-off. The list of starters read like a Who’s Who of the show jumping scene, and there was a corresponding sense of excitement as the 14 best riders in this competition rode all-out for Grand-Prix-victory.
Crowning himself “best of best” in the CSI5* GLOCK’s Season Opening 2019 was the winner of the World Cup in Leipzig, current number 17 in the World Ranking and definitely one of the best show jumping riders in the world: Christian Ahlmann (GER). Today, with Clintrexo Z, he had found the perfect mix of flowing canter and tight turning. His winning time was 40.42 seconds which, following on from his victory in June 2016, meant his second GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix win and a generous first prize of 86,000 euros for this multiple-award-winning rider from Germany. “I’d like to pay a huge compliment to my horse. He’s done a fantastic job today. I took great risks and he dealt with it all perfectly. I’m really rather proud of him”, was Ahlmann’s delighted comment on this fabulous success.
Honoured with second place at the official award ceremony was a duo from Brazil. Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and his eleven-year-old Belgian stallion Icarus took a brilliant second place in 42.10 seconds without penalties.
Third place was reserved for Austria in this GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix, as Max Kühner (AUT/T) and 14-year-old Cornet Kalua, son of Cornet Obolensky, were able to celebrate another top placing at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Austria, having completed the jump-off penalty-free in 42.42 seconds.
