Austria ahead: treble for our riders in the Youngster Tour final

What a triumph for our Austrian athletes! No fewer than three Austrians led the field in the final of the Youngster Tour in the 1.20 m class for the six-year-olds and the 1.30 m for the more experienced seven-year-old horses. Before it could be decided, the young horses had to overcome twelve obstacles and 15 jumps. Only five pairs succeeded in doing so without any faults to go through to the all-decisive jump-off.

Favourite Markus Saurugg (Styria), who had already taken home a win on Friday and eleventh position on Saturday with his six-year-old Holstein-bred mare Zita 94 sired by Stakkato, risked all in the jump-off and made it home in a fabulous time of 31.97 seconds, winning very convincingly.

Runner-up spot was also claimed by a Styrian - Siegfried Schlemmer again went all out with the Austrian mare Romy S sired by Santander and finished in a top placing just under two seconds (33.42) behind the winner.

Multiple national champion and Olympic competitor Anton Martin Bauer (Lower Austria) paced himself a little more with Cat Ballou, a Cassini II progeny, but still easily managed to reach the podium thanks to his clear round (38.88). Following a fifth and a fourth place in the Youngster Tours, he was also pleased with his horse’s continuous improvement.

GLOCK rider Gerfried Puck (Styria) on seven-year-old GLOCK'S Chamonix B on the other hand had bad luck. A time fault in the first round prevented him from taking part in the jump-off, but his flawless ride still paid off with sixth place.
