Fast, agile, victorious: Shane Carey takes home Silver Tour win for Ireland

Punctually at eight o’clock this morning the arena was ready for the 57 riders who had saddled their horses for the Silver Tour 1.40 m class. Frank Rothenberger (GER) designed a course that not only demanded speed of rider and mount but also, in particular, put the horses’ agility to the test.

The leader changed frequently up until about half the starting field had jumped, but then shortly after Ireland’s Shane Carey had entered the arena at number 26, the outcome was clear. Aboard his 11-year-old Spice Girl sired by Ramirado, he pulled off an exceptional round of 55.31 seconds which none of the 17 other riders that had gone clear could beat. “Thanks to the GLOCK family, it's amazing to be here, and I would like to come back every year,” said the likeable winner grinning broadly. He was also runner-up in the Gold Tour here at the GHPC last year. Andy Candin (ROU), another rider with a reputation for fast rounds, had to accept defeat on Carlo 281 today - 56.44 seconds meant second place. Sired by Calido, the mare ridded by Jillian Terceira (BER) is called K Club Lady. A slightly longer path at the decisive turn cost valuable hundredths of a second, but her fantastic round was rewarded with third spot. 

Austria’s top female jumper, Julia Kayser, put in a spirited and stylistically perfect performance as usual on her compact stallion Sterrehof's Cayetano Z to finish on a good time, placed twelfth and was therefore the best of the nation’s riders in this class.
