Hup Holland hup - Gert Jan Bruggink wins the first qualifier for the GLOCK Grand Prix

The suspense was killing in the 1.45 m class late on Friday evening in GLOCK’s Grand Prix Tour. Not only was the star-studded starting field intent on qualifying for the highlight scheduled for Sunday, the GLOCK Grand Prix, but also keen to chalk up their first world ranking points today.

Start number 16, the young Dutch rider Stephanie Brugman, set out to achieve one of the best times. She managed a fast clear round (62.29) with her 14-year-old stallion Waldo and remained in the lead for a long time. It was not until the second third that five-times Vienna Grand Prix winner Beat Mändli (SUI) on his Oldenburg gelding Louis took it away from her with a time of 61.76 seconds. “A Dutch girl was leading, then unfortunately was overtaken by a Swiss rider. I however desperately wanted hear the Dutch anthem,” grinned the later winner Gert Jan Bruggink at his interview afterwards. He went all out on his 16-year-old gelding Cash Junior sired by Cash, charged round the challenging course extremely skilfully and was the only rider to stay under 60 seconds - and with a clear round (59.79) as well. A worthy winner at the end of an exciting day’s competition.

Once again Christian Schranz (AUT/Lower Austria) did not let the Austrian side down. He came in 15th in the final standings on Wodka Lime.
