Olympic, World and European Champions all set for Carinthia

Olympic, World and European Champions all set for Carinthia
Stars from all over the world coming to the CDI4* at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER

The equestrian stars are on their way to what is arguably Austria’s most attractive dressage arena where the live action can be followed at close quarters. It starts on Thursday (16 May) with the international event at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER where you can see the most difficult dressage movements. Admission is free on all four days. 13 nations and some 100 horses are on site, with 14 riders ranking among the top 100 in the world. The line-up of stars is long but the following deserve special mention.

Number five in the world and a GLOCK rider, Edward Gal with jet black GLOCK’s Undercover can virtually regard the competition at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER as a home show. About a year ago the five-time World Champion, three-time European Champion and team bronze medallist at the London Olympics showed his much applauded freestyle here on his elegant gelding and since then has jumped an unbelievable 194 places in the world rankings. As one of the world’s most famous dressage riders, he has a fan club stretching from the Netherlands to the US and China, and here at the GHPC you can finally see the third in the 2013 Dressage World Cup final, Edward Gal and GLOCK’s Undercover, live in Austria.

Another must-see performance will be from GLOCK rider Hans Peter Minderhoud (NED). The World Champion, team silver medallist at the Beijing Olympics, three-times World Champion for young dressage horses and number 41 in the world will not only be competing on his impressive Grand Prix horse GLOCK’s Romanov, but also stallion GLOCK’s Ziesto. With his incredible potential for movement, his appearances in the Netherlands have caused quite a sensation and he will now make his international debut at the GHPC.

Ranked seventh in the world, Valentina Truppa (ITA) has dressage in her blood. Her father Enzo Truppa being the first Italian to take part in World Equestrian Games (1982), she must have inherited his talent. She is a police officer, which you can see from the chic Carabinieri uniform she always wears when riding her famous Grand Prix horse Fixdesign Eremo del Castegno. Her freestyle to music usually features well-known Italian hits, bringing some Mediterranean sun to the dressage arena.

It is a Belgian who will be aboard the biggest horse here at the GHPC. Mario van Orshaegen trusts in Wilco V in the dressage ring – and he stands proud at 1.87 m. The ten-year-old black horse however keeps his long legs well under control. Among many other top results, the two won the CDI5* in Mechelen this year.

Ellen Schulten-Baumer (GER) has trained a large number of highly successful Grand Prix horses and is definitely endowed with a great deal of equestrian talent. Undoubtedly, she also owes some of that success to her stepfather, riding legend Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer, and perhaps even a little to Madras, Isabell Werth’s first successful horse that Ellen was allowed to ride at the tender age of eight.

Philippe Jorissen’s entourage of family fans will surely be unrivalled. Hailing from Belgium, the number 77 in the world with his Oldenburg gelding Le Beau has no fewer than ten children. Justus, Paula, Louise, Johanna, Lambert, Laurence, Lilly, Lasse, Lotte and Penelope will all be keeping their fingers crossed for him.

The number 44 in the world, José Daniel Martín Dockx, and naturally Juan Manuel Muñoz Díaz, who is also famous for riding one-handed one-tempi changes with his Andalusian Fuego, will add Spanish verve to the arena.

Keeping the Austrian flag flying will also be the number 91 in the world, Karin Kosak (Styria) with her Lucy’s Day, Peter Gmoser who has championship experience and always enjoys a joke and his partner Belinda Weinbauer (Burgenland), Tyrol’s Andrea John and of course Carinthia’s local heroes Nikolaus Erdmann and GLOCK rider Timna Zach.

Admission to the dressage competitions is free every day.
