Three Olympic-medallists on the podium for the CSI5* GLOCK’s Perfection Tour

This weekend is Irishman Cian O’Connor’s first appearance as a guest at the GLOCK HORSE PERFORMANCE CENTER Austria and one thing is for sure today: it could scarcely have gone better for him. The London 2012 Olympic-bronze-medallist having already taken victory in the opening of the CSI5* GLOCK’s Perfection Tour, today he followed up in the World Ranking test over 1.55 m with jump-off, carrying prize money totalling 62,000 euros.

As one of 13 participants, he managed to remain penalty-free in the highly selective basic round, thereby qualifying for the jump-off. There, in the saddle on Callisto, he had to go as first starter and set a benchmark with a penalty-free 40.98 seconds, which nobody managed to beat. Responding to the question as to what he might anticipate of tomorrow’s GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix following his two wins, his answer was matter-of-fact: “You have to take each test as it comes; for now I’ll start by enjoying this victory. Tomorrow I’ll be riding a different horse, so we’ll just have to see what the possibilities are for me.” Cian also had praise for the course designer, Franz Madl: “He does a superb job here. Today the big challenges were the wide oxers and choice of line. I didn’t think I would win, because twelve good people were still to come after me. But, following an injury, I’ve been working on my fitness over the last few months, changed my lifestyle and it’s really paid off. I don’t think I’ve ever before had so many good results in just one month.”

Jeroen Dubbeldam (NED) also has the right to be satisfied. The Sydney Olympic-winner and reigning two-times World and European Champion took his KWPN gelding, Sfn Zenith, in with a slightly lower pace, nevertheless securing a magnificent second place in 43.13 seconds. Third place in the CSI5* GLOCK’s Perfection Tour also went to an Olympic medallist. Following his victory in yesterday’s Gaston Glock’s Championat, the individual silver-winner at Rio 2016, Peder Fredricson (SWE), today took third place on H&M Christian K (0/48.28). Julia Houtzager-Kayser (T), riding Sterrehof’s Ushi, was the only Austrian to make the jump-off, which she completed in eleventh place with two knock-downs.
