Spanish temperament at the CDI3* Grand Prix de Dressage

The performance was impressive. Just before the end of the opening competition in the CDI3*, the Grand Prix de Dressage (test: Grand Prix, 2009), which counts as the qualifier for both the Grand Prix Special and the Grand Prix Freestyle, Olympic rider José Daniel Martín Dockx (ESP) demonstrated his equestrian skills on his elegant bay P.R.E. stallion Grandioso with smooth and extremely accurate transitions, light-footed canter changes and lovely extended trots. Scoring a total of 71.681%, he just edged GLOCK rider Hans Peter Minderhoud (NED), who had led for a long time, into runner-up spot. The Dutchman rode GLOCK’s Lord of Loxley, the 14-year-old Lord Sinclair son endowed with a tremendous potential for movement. He may have been distracted a few times here, but his concentration while executing the movements was truly remarkable (71.362%).

Stephan Köberle (GER) managed to continue his run of securing a placing at every start on his Oldenburg-bred De Niro son Darjeeling in the opening competition today. With a test showing concentration, a few little slips and a total of 68.872%, third place went to Germany.

The best Austrian was a happy sixth: Peter Gmoser (Burgenland) presented his long-term partner, Cointreau, to gain a total of 67.340%. Next was Martin Hauptmann (Styria) on his 13-year-old stallion Frechdachs H, scoring 66.362% for tenth slot.
